Know Your Rights – Empowering Workers to Uphold their Rights
Every worker has tools to make sure their work is safe. Employers are responsible for upholding health and safety standards in the workplace, including providing necessary equipment and training. But workers have rights to know about hazards in their work, to participate in decisions that affect their health and safety and to ultimately refuse unsafe work.
April 28 is the National Day of Mourning, a day to commemorate those who have died or been injured as a result of their job. This year’s theme “Know your rights; Use the tools; Defend our wins,” is aimed at supporting and empowering workers to actively participate in workplace health and safety.
The Yukon Federation of Labour is hosting a half day workshop open to any Yukon worker at no cost that will help workers understand their rights for safety in the workplace; what to do if they see unsafe work; how to refuse and how to report; and how to use their voice to help prevent unsafe work before someone is harmed.
Space is limited, so pre-registration is required to participate.
