Day of Mourning Ceremony April 28, 2024

April 28, 2024 at
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM MST
Yukon Workers Memorial, Shipyards Park 100 Ogilvie Street Whitehorse, Yukon Y1A 0G6

You are invited to join us at 2:00 pm on Sunday, April 28th, 2024 either online or in person at the Yukon Worker’s Memorial in Shipyards Park, 100 Ogilvie Street, Whitehorse, Yukon as we reflect and honour fallen workers and their families in the Yukon territory.

Marked annually in Canada on April 28, the National Day of Mourning is dedicated to remembering those who have lost their lives, suffered injury or illness on the job, or experienced a work-related tragedy.

The National Day of Mourning is not only a day to remember and honour those lives lost or injured due to a workplace tragedy, but also a day to collectively renew our commitment to fight for the living, improve health and safety in the workplace and prevent further injuries, illnesses and deaths.

In 2022, nearly 1,000 people left for work and never came home across Canada. In the Yukon, there was 1 workplace fatality, 15 workers permanently impaired, and over 1000 claims with the Workers’ Safety & Compensation Board. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Westray Law coming into effect.

Workplace tragedies impact everyone and we all have a responsibility to do better for today’s workers.  Representatives of our communities will renew our pledges to keep workers and workplaces safe in an outdoor ceremony.

Please RSVP if you would like to attend in person or receive the link for the live stream to watch from anywhere with an internet connection.

The Yukon Federation of Labour would like to thank the Worker’s Safety and Compensation Board for their continued support for the National Day of Mourning and worker safety year-round.
