YFL President Alex FurlongPresident's Message
I am pleased to report that our training and educational courses have been a huge success to date. Our 2010 calendar has been posted on our website, so please take a moment to view the array of courses we offer in the areas of health and safety, labour education and professional development. Our new Foreign Worker Program: Certificate in Health and Safety Basics is proving to be very successful, with an uptake that has far exceeded our expectations. As well, I am happy to report that we are once again offering a number of Return to Work courses for Yukon workers and employers, alike. YFL remains committed to being a leader in health and safety training in Yukon.
In December, 2009 Provincial and Territorial Finance
Ministers met in Whitehorse to discuss the current state of pensions in Canada. As a result, the Ministers felt that a pan Canadian consultation process would enable all Canadians an opportunity to directly suggest ways to improve current pension systems. In response, the Yukon Territorial Government has issued a call for Yukoners to respond. The deadline for comments is April 30, 2010. I encourage all Yukoners to avail of this opportunity to be heard! Visit the YTG website for more
information.
In solidarity,
Alex Furlong
President, Yukon Federation of Labour
